thanks for the post & the link. the survey findings reminded me of the dilemma we face in threat of civil religion, the mixture of faith and flag, until one cannot be seen apart from the other. one wonders what white southerners, or the rest of us for that matter, will do one day when we are forced to choose between the two.
you're welcome mark. i for one suspect that jesus has been wrapped in that flag for so long and for so many that the two have become merged and it has created an all together "new religion" - i know it's not christianity.
andrew sullivan has taken to calling it "christianist" instead of "christian" - when the lies become the truth and the truth becomes the lie.
don't you really appreciate sullivan's prose? he is very gifted. could you tell me where he uses the term christianist?
i love andrew, and watching him go through the process of the past couple of months has been fun.
