The Man in Black

Other than Lawrence Welk one of my earliest memories of music is Johnny Cash. Today is the five year anniversary of his death. His rendition of Trent Reznor's HURT is one of the most moving songs for me. If you have never heard the song or seen the video with it I highly recommend it. It can't be embedded, but you can see the video here:

Johnny Cash - Hurt

Here he is late in life singing with Willie Nelson one of my other favorite songs by him - Ring of Fire

On a lighter note here's Johnny on the Muppet Show

I miss him and thank him for living such a transparent, spiritual life.

I'd never heard the Hurt song. The video makes me wonder about all that I saw in it. I bookmarked it to return to it later. Ring of Fire is one of my favorites.

hey nikkirae - trent reznor, who wrote the song (lead singer of nine inch nails) is a recovering addict, johnny cash struggled with drug addiction for much of his life. i love the reznor version, but this one, especially with the images makes it so poignant.

after cash covered the song reznor said it now belongs to johnny.

Johnny's the best though it took me a long time to really appreciate him. Hurt is a killer song. I recall hearing it when it was released and I had to stop everything I was doing and just sit still and listen. I bought the CD the next day - rarely do I do that. Peace be with you kiddo.
